A New Modern Waste Disposal Facility in Kvemo Kartli to Begin Operations in May 2026

A new regional non-hazardous waste disposal facility has been constructed within the framework of the Kvemo Kartli Solid Waste Management Project. The facility will serve five municipalities in the region: Tsalka, Tetritskaro, Marneuli, Bolnisi, and Dmanisi. The project was financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

At a working meeting held to discuss the commissioning of the facility, participants reviewed issues related to the smooth and efficient operation of the waste transfer stations and the non-hazardous waste disposal facility.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia and the Ministry of Regional Development of Georgia, as well as the State Representative in the Kvemo Kartli region and the mayors of Kvemo Kartli municipalities.

It is noteworthy that on January 20, 2026, in accordance with Government of Georgia Decree No. 2283, service agreements were signed with local self-government bodies regarding the use of the new regional non-hazardous waste disposal facility.

The proper operation of the new facility and the waste transfer network will contribute to the introduction of a modern waste management system in the region, based on environmental standards.
