The government of Japan decided today to help Georgia by providing the country with medical equipment. The details will be clarified after the bilateral agreement. The working process is currently underway between the governments of Japan and Georgia in order to sign a bilateral agreement on a timely basis.
"The population of Georgia is united against the coronavirus pandemic and the result is fascinating. The Japanese government has decided to provide medical assistance to Georgia due to the spread of new coronavirus throughout the world. Perhaps, this not only serves to eradicate measures against COVID-19 but also points out that Japan supports Georgia. In terms of medium and long-term development, the government of Japan aims to support the social and economical development of Georgia, as well as strengthening the field of the medical system.
Taking into account human security, Japan has provided a lot of support to Georgia, under which no part of Georgian society is left behind since projects serve the majority of the population. For instance, the infrastructural project "East-West Highway Development Plan (First Phase), which is implemented by JICA, installation of solar panels at Tbilisi International Airport and Ilia State University. In total, 180 projects ($18,115,814) were implemented within the frameworks of grant programs. Such projects included the provision of medical equipment, the transfer of fire engines, the installation of irrigation systems, setting up social infrastructures, promotion of school development, etc.
The government of Japan hopes, that with the medical assistance, Georgia will be able to overcome the challenges evoked by a coronavirus. With this support, the Government of Japan assists every citizen and expresses benevolence towards Georgia, which promotes the further development of bilateral relations.", is written in the published statement.
