New Mural Emerged in Tbilisi Depicting Living Room of Ilia Chavchavadze
ILIA’S ROOM is the name of Tbilisi Mural Fest’s newest work by Mohamed I’Ghacham, in the district of Varketili.
It depicts the living room of the famous Georgian thinker and author Ilia Chavchavadze (1837-1907), who spearheaded the revival of the Georgian national movement in the second half of the 19th century. He is widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of modern Georgia.
The organizers found it thought-provoking to open an architectural dialogue between the interior of the previous era with the facade of a typical Soviet building.
Tbilisi Mural Fest was founded in 2019 and has connected several artists to work on some stunning murals in the capital of Georgia, creating unique examples of successful post-soviet urban intervention. The inaugural Festival showcased world-renowned muralists and local artists.
