National Film Center Shows Retrospective of Georgian Cinema at Berlin International Film Festival

With the grand opening of the Berlin International Film Festival, the National Film Center will offer viewers an online retrospective of Georgian cinema. Like the film festival, the retrospective will be divided into two parts and will be held in the months of March and June.

The March program is already revealed. Films, which will be screened online, are as follows:

  • March 6th – „The Journey of a Young Composer"

The Journey of a Young Composer is a 1985 Georgian comedy drama film directed by Giorgi Shengelaya. It was the first Georgian film to enter into the 36th Berlin International Film Festival where Shengelaya won the Silver Bear for Best Director in 1986.

  • March 13th – „The Sun of the Sleepless“

The Sun of the Sleepless is a 1992 Georgian drama film directed by Temur Babluani. It was entered into the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival in 1993 as a film of an independent country where it won the Silver Bear for outstanding artistic contribution. The film had been directed from 1985 until 1992.

  • March 20th – „Ik-Chemtan“

The film "Ik-Chemtan" is directed by Zaza Khalvashi in 1992. This work was presented in the section "forum" and was screened on many international film festivals.

  • March 27th – „City Of The Sun

Film director and producer Rati Oneli presented his documentary "City of the Sun" on Berlinale in 2017. It was screened within the section Forum. The film has received numerous prestigious international awards.
