Georgian Youth Team to Represent Georgia at International Robotics Championship in South Korea
A Georgian national team made up of students from schools in Tbilisi and Kutaisi will represent Georgia at the 2026 FIRST Global Challenge, the international robotics championship, in Incheon, South Korea.
Nearly 200 teams from around the world are expected to participate in this year’s competition, which brings together young people around science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The theme of the 2026 FIRST Global Challenge is “Igniting Innovations,” focusing on the challenges associated with wildfires and their consequences.
In addition to competing on the field, participating teams will collaborate, exchange experiences and work together on global challenges. The Georgian national team brings together young innovators interested in robotics, programming, engineering, physics, technology and innovation. The competition will give the students an opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills to a real-world engineering challenge while representing Georgia on the international stage. Georgia has a strong history of participation in FIRST Global competitions.
At the 2018 FIRST Global Challenge in Mexico City, the Georgian team won third place among more than 180 participating teams. In 2019, at the FIRST Global Challenge in Dubai, Team Georgia, together with the teams from the United Kingdom and Qatar, secured second place in the finalists’ alliance in a competition focused on ocean pollution and environmental protection. In 2022, the Georgian team received the Bronze International Enthusiasm Award for supporting other participants and promoting international collaboration.
Most recently, in 2025, Team Georgia received the Silver Katherine Johnson Award for Engineering Documentation, recognizing the quality of its engineering work and documentation. The team also received an award in the Social Media Challenge. The Georgian team will now travel to Incheon, South Korea, to compete alongside teams from nearly 200 countries and showcase the skills, creativity and innovation of young Georgian students.
