Georgian Student to Start Working As a Software Engineer on eBay

Fourth-year Georgian student, Ana Gurgenidze has been hired in eBay. Recently, she is studying at the Free University of Tbilisi on the faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science – MACS. One year ago, she sent an application in response to the vacancy announced by eBay. Shortly after this, computer recruiter made contact with her. After this, there were several interviews held, which generally involved solving different technical tasks.

“I was under pressure for the whole interview. During the several months, waiting was being intertwined with nervousness. The night before the interview I could not sleep. But it turned out, that the interviewers were nice people, who were trying to make this process pleasant. This somehow determined my success.”, Ana Gurgenidze noted.

What helped you with acquiring this position?

As a student of MACS, in particular, I loved mathematics in school. The university made me love the field of engineering. In my point of view, my experience played a huge role in the selection process. During the last several years, I have worked in TBC Bank, Realtyna, Hand4Help – as a developer. In my free time, I have written 1-2 mobile applications. Now, with my friends, I developed a Startup, which will soon enter the Georgian market.

What functions does your new working area involve?

For four months in Berlin, I will work as a Software Engineer. I already know some of the team members, who are looking forward to meeting me. I reckon, that this internship will give me the opportunity to improve my personal and professional skills.

Why is eBay a fascinating work-field for you?

Before sending the application in eBay, I did the research, where I saw the feedbacks and pieces of advice given by eBay’s employers. I have heard, that this kind of companies have the specific corporational culture and, as many say, they gained much experience to be valuable in their lives.

You mentioned your Startup “Dzialogi”, which will enter the Georgian market soon. What does this initiative involve?

The application indicates the coordinates of users on the Georgian politics coordinate system. One is able to find someone with a similar taste but different political thinking. That implements the possibility to discuss the matters, on which they do not agree.
