Georgian National Film Center Continues to Restore 1920's Georgian Films

Despite the pandemic and the fact, that Georgian National Film Center could not manage to bring initial materials of Georgian films from the Russian film store "Gosfilmofond", the organization has continued the technical processes, which means restoring old films.

The restoration of the films is carried out by the National Film Center in cooperation with the National Archives of Georgia. The following 8 Georgian films are planned to be restored in 2021:

  1. The Suram Fortress - Ivane Perestiani;
  2. Arsena Jorjiashvili - Ivane Perestiani;
  3. Mamis Mkvleli - Hamo Beknazarian;
  4. Giuli - Nikoloz Shengelaia;
  5. Ibrahim and Goderdzi - Zakaria Berishvili;
  6. Kali Bazrobidan - Giorgi Makarov;
  7. Youth Wins - Mikheil Gelovani;
  8. On the Holt - Leo Esakia.

All the films belong to the 1920s era, which is a remarkable period for Georgian cinema. 

Apart from this, National Film Center will also restore legendary Georgian films in 2021, including Eldar Shengelaia's "The Eccentrics", Rezo Esadze's "Erti Nakhvit Shekvareba", and "A Georgian Chronicle of the 19th Century" by Aleksandre (Sasha) Rekhviashvili.
