First Trial of Gaprindashvili Against Netflix Scheduled for January 24
According to the rights defender for Georgian chess player Nona Gaprindashvili, Nona Gaprindashvili's first trial against Netflix is scheduled for January 24 in California.
As the lawyer explains, the TV series' producer and scriptwriter were questioned, and they were required to affirm that Nona Gaprindashvili was a real person who spent the majority of her career playing with men.
The court dispute will be related to the episode where it is said that Nona Gaprindashvili has never played with men and where she is called a Russian chess player. According to her, Netflix presented the traditional way of defense and petitioned to terminate the proceedings, which "looks unbelievable and weak."
In exchange for damages, the Georgian chess player is seeking $ 5 million from the American company.
"We demand that Netflix be fined $5 million in damages and that the defamatory term be corrected. In the state of California, the first court hearing in this case has been scheduled for January 24. We have high hopes for the future,"said Maia Mtsariashvili.
