Disney Figurines Collector from Georgia Listed in Guinness Book of World Records

Nick Gelagutashvili has one of the greatest Disney toy collections in Georgia, with over 5000 items. He is currently ranked second in the Guinness World Records, and we spoke with him about his plans to expand his collection and break the record.

Becoming a collector

It all starts with one item and will always stand out in the future for that one item in the collections. One of my favorite animations is Alice in Wonderland. I especially love it and I also find parallels with myself. My father ordered my first set that included this figure, it was quite expensive at the time and everyone wondered why one would pay such a price for a toy. 

After a trip to Paris Disneyland, I gave a more serious look to my hobby and fulfilled a long-held desire by purchasing Disney figurines there. Naturally, there were a lot of shops there, and I saw a lot of figurines grouped together, which made me want to collect them even more, that's where I got my princess set. 

Being a collector

Finding figurines is not easy. I would like to thank the Georgian emigrants who are abroad and give me various gifts and help me to enrich my collection, these people give me the greatest motivation. As for other ways, unfortunately only eBay and Amazon are available for Georgia, it is impossible to order these figurines on other sites. Auctions are held on eBay and it is possible to buy the whole collection at a good price, which is sold by an individual from home, and on Amazon is usually placed Shop Disney products. One of my dreams is to have Shop.disney.com available in Georgia, shipped from the official Disney store directly to our country, which will be very convenient for me as a collector.

I often receive messages from various Georgian people who are abroad and ask me what is missing in my collection. I send them a list and they are so kind, they search for them, then bring it to me by themselves or send them by mail. It will be not only my victory, but also the victory of the Georgian people, because they are doing a lot to make the representative of his nation succeed.

Guinness World Record

This happened very soon, when I reached a certain number I learned that the BBC is often registering for collectors who want to be on the Guinness Book of Records. I said why not, I wanted to be on their list and decided to sign up. 

I got a response months later: Nick, you're in the book of Guinness World Records. When you're on this list, you have a lot of responsibilities. When you buy a new figure, you should register it as soon as possible since these figurines have unique codes and number updates. Registration is done several times during the year, for example, three registrations were made this year. We are waiting for the final registration in December. As far as I know, they are planning to prepare a New Year's story for American television.

Many assume that these figurines are for Guinness World Records for me and I have found an easy way to get a prize. This prize is an apartment, temporary American residence and a career there if the US is interested in you. Though I will say that collecting these figurines gives me great pleasure, these items are like family members to me and if I could not get into the Guinness Book of Records, I am satisfied that I have such a cool collection.
