Dead Souls' Vacation to be in Hot Docs Official Selection

A feature documentary film by Keko Chelidze, "Dead Soul's Vacation hit the official selection of Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.

The film was chosen for a special program "The Changing Face of Europe", which is presented by European Film Promotion on Hot Docs international film festival.

"Dead Soul's Vacation" is the first feature film of Georgian producing company "Parachute Films", which was supported by Georgian National Film Center.

The film will be premiered in Georgia at the end of 2020.

The film is about 45 years old Levan, formerly a popular bass player in Georgia, who lives in physical and mental isolation in a small apartment with his overly controlling mother Lamara (81). Long forgotten by everyone, Levan has no luck at finding a job or a girlfriend. Despite his best efforts to prove his worth, Levan’s attempts to change his fate are absurd, while Lamara’s main concern is to make sure that her son is well-fed, dressed appropriately, but most importantly, not affectionate with a woman unworthy of his love.

"I love strange stories. In fact, our life is full of such stories. When we were shooting the film, I could not imagine that Levan's isolation could become a global problem and we would find ourselves disconnected from the world. I think, that now I understand more, what our main character feels in the film. Documentary films are short or long stories about our world, which are revealing themselves over and over again. Things that are absurd, false or unacceptable, in fact, could not be far from our reality.", noted Keko Chelidze, film director.
