Brazil’s Most Honored Art Director Marcello Serpa Will Be Speaker at Ad Black Sea

Brazil’s most honored art director and winner of multiple international advertising festivals Marcello Serpa is a guest speaker with the topic “Art Director” at Ad Black Sea 2019. The festival will take place in Batumi, Georgia in September 19-21.

Throughout his career he had been travelling quite a bit. Starting in Germany, where he studied Graphic Design and where he worked in such agencies as GGK and R.G. Wiesmeir.

Continuing in Brazil, his birth country, where he moved back in 1989. There, he worked as an art director in DPZ and DM9DDB. However, in 1993 he decided to leave the agency to become a partner and Chief creative officer at AlmapBBDO.

For 17 years he had been leading Havaianas, his first account at AlmapBBDO, to different national, as well as international awards.

Serpa has been called Brazil’s most honored art director, winning all kinds of medals at Brazilian and International advertising festivals for such clients as Volkswagen, Audi, Pepsi, Mars and many other local and international brands.

Additionally, Marcello Serpa was the first Latin American to ever win a Grand Prix at the Cannes Festival in 1993. Since then, he has won over 150 Lions.

Thanks to his knowledge and experience in advertising, in 2000 he was the youngest TV and Press jury president at the Cannes Festival of Creativity. Besides that in 2014 he, once again, has been the jury president at the 60th Cannes Lions for the Press category. Also, he has once been the jury president of the London Festival and Asia’s Ad Fest, as well as twice of UK’s D&AD and Clio Awards.

He has been recognized with Clio’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his hard work, creative ideas and big contributions to the advertising world in 2008.

Moreover, he used to be Chief Creative Officer and partner at AlmapBBDO for 3 years and during that time they, for the first time ever, have been double winners of the title “Agency of the Year” in the Gunn Report. On the other hand, after leaving AlmapBBDO in 2016 he won “The Lion of St. Mark” in Cannes for his contributions in the creative industries around the world.

In 2016 he decided to move to Hawaii with his family to pursue his lifetime passion: the creation of images, but from now on — with paint on canvas. Consequently, on his first exhibit that took place in New York’s Apart Gallery in October 2017 he showed his first 14 paintings.

Throughout his life Marcello Serpa was working passionately in the advertising world and was making progressive changes in the creative industries around the globe. He was not afraid to be creative and was often awarded for that.
