100 Chairs Beneath the Sky - New Project for Long-awaited Performances in Open AIr

The project, 100 Chairs Beneath The Sky was created to revive the emotions of spectators and the actor on stage. The project will offer performances that are missed by the spectators. From July 7th till August 11th, Club 33a, which is the open-air film theater in Vake Park, will include the theatre shows.

As Maia Gelovani, the author and organizer of the idea mentioned, the idea came up during the quarantine.

"We started thinking intensively about this idea when the situation started to settle down and different strict regulations were lifted over time. Since the theatre stopped functioning, taking into account the current regulations, why could not the performances be held in open-air?! Theatre is something that can not be stopped."

During one month, they were working on the idea, refining it, and holding negotiations with the theatres, and directors, which was followed by a whole month of planning.

"The desire to play was so strong and the actors were so eager to meet the spectators, that theatres united, and today within the frameworks of the project, the audience is able to see the performance of all the theatres of Tbilisi in one space."

"According to the regulation, two-meter distance must be maintained between the chairs. It appeared, that exactly 100 chairs were placed in 600 square meters of the parterre. This brought the name of the project."

As she stated, this space was always open for the music and musicians, perhaps, drama theater can be shifted here as well.

"I hope, that this space will be maximally adopted and different performances, musicals, even opera sketches will be staged here."

According to her, they had a pretty emotional opening, the audience and actors were eager to meet each other.

"The audience had this traditional emotion evoked by the theatre, and the actors again put their energy in the performance, as they did it in the past. The performances of the first week finished successfully and we hope that the next performances will be held in the same way. We are looking forward to see this performances with our audience."
