Youth Gather at Round Table to Discuss Better Skills for Better Future

Stakeholders in the field of youth policy came together in Kazbegi, Georgia on 11-12 November for round table discussions organised by the EU4Youth ‘Better Skills for Better Future’ project.

The talks aimed to coordinate the efforts of the national authorities dealing with employment, youth and education, and non-state youth actors, for a structured policy dialogue and establishment of good practices on national and regional levels.

National authorities, local municipalities and civil society representatives took part in the discussions covering good parctices of public programmes and policy lessons derived from them. During the first day, the representatives heard about project achievements and planned activities, the advantages and drawbacks of Youth Agency coordination efforts, and Save the Children’s involvement in various cooperatin mechanisms with the government.

In particular, Save the Children presented information about establishing a coordination council between the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.

After the presentations, the participants were divided into groups to work on the structure of the Youth Platform, and proposed it to the Youth Agency. The second day was devoted to the group presentation, which provided good insights into the work of youth platform and how to make it effective and operative.

The round table discussions aimed to foster cooperation and sustainable links between national authorities, youth organisations and young people.

The event was organised within the scope of the ‘EU4Youth: Better Skills for Better Future’ project, funded by the European Union and implemented by Save the Children International in three countries of Eastern Partnership – Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine. Save the Children’s implementing partner in Georgia is LEPL Youth Agency.

The project contributes to developing the entrepreneurial potential of disadvantaged youth in Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine, ensures their increased access to education and training opportunities for greater employability, and advocates for coherent and cross-sectoral youth policies at local, regional and national levels, euneighbors reports.
