Tamar Buadze: "Not All Businesses May Be Ready for EU Tenders Yet"

Tamar Buadze, the lead for the economic reforms component under USAID's Economic Governance Program, shared insights during the "Business Partner" program, emphasizing the gradual readiness of Georgian businesses for European Union tenders.

Buadze highlighted the significant advantages for the country stemming from the ongoing public procurement reform. "Through the USAID Economic Governance Program, we're focusing on critical economic reforms, among which public procurement reform is pivotal. This reform not only offers access to EU markets but enhances efficiency and inclusivity in local procurement practices. The adoption of the new law in February 2023 marks a major step forward, opening up a €2 trillion market opportunity across the 27 EU member states. While this is a substantial market, we're realistic in our approach, understanding that not all Georgian businesses may be ready to compete in EU tenders immediately. Our role includes guiding the government and agencies in disseminating crucial information to businesses, initiating a process of familiarization and preparation for these opportunities," explained Buadze.
