Sulakauri Publishing House: Our Losses amid Pandemic Hit at Least 0.5 million GEL
“Our losses amid the pandemic hit at least 0.5 million GEL”, The Bakur Sulakauri Publishing House director Tina Mamulashvili told BM.Ge.
Sales of books were restricted amid the state of emergency and the publishing business bears losses of millions of GEL, she noted.
“Amid the pandemic bookstores were closed and sales were suspended, in practice. Only our website was working. These circumstances have essentially damaged our publishing house and the whole publishing sector. I cannot name precise figures, but our losses hit at least 0.5 million GEL”, Tina Mamulashvili noted.
As for the existing needs, in this situation purchasing of books should be intensified to support the sector, she added.
“I think the Government should be the most active actor, in terms of purchase of book for libraries. Similar support for public and secondary school libraries would essentially compensate the losses”, Mamulashvili said.
