Spruce Grown in Racha May Export to Turkey and Armenia

Representatives of companies collecting Rachuli seeds discussed the matters of Georgian potential. They noted, that the country has not been able to use existed potential for years and they missed the change to get more income from this particular product.

According to them, there is a big risk that Europe will become the main supplier of Rachuli cone seeds since Christmas tree plantations are already planted in Denmark.

National Forestry Agency, Karlo Amirgulashvili mentioned, that European plantations will not be able to completely replace Racha forest crop. According to him, Georgia can develop new markets in this field. He explained, that Georgia is able to export Christmas tree seedlings along with Rachuli cone seeds.

Companies obtained a ten-year license to extract Rachuli cone in 2009. In 2019, the permission was expired, but according to the decision made by the state, it was extended for another 2 years.

Currently, Rachuli cone seed is collected by 8 licensees in Ambrolauri.
