Silknet Conducted thorough Researches on Introducing Obligatory MVNO Access and Related Possible Risks
"We would like to refer to information spread in media regarding MVNO access regulation, where chief analyst and competition expert of Cullen International states the following: "Whereas the telecom market is mature enough, the investments are already made and the market is fully penetrated and competition on market is not increasing, regulatory authorities must introduce obligatory MVNO access," Silknet writes
It must be noted, that the situation in the Georgian market is different. We’d like to refer to the assessment of one of the world’s leading analytical company Analysys Mason regarding the situation of the Georgian market. We’ve been conducting research in cooperation with Analysys Mason on studying the currently existing situation of the Georgian market. As a result, Analysys Mason research reads: “Our assessment of the Georgian mobile retail market shows that:
- Three full-scale MNOs are active on the Georgian mobile market, offering competitive and diverse services to subscribers based on the latest industry standards (including 4G, 4.5G, and 4.9G)”.
Further, the researchers state: "We believe that the Georgian retail mobile market is sufficiently competitive and that there is no evidence of any failure that could justify the introduction of an ex-ante obligation to host MVNOs”.
Similar to our competitors, we annually make investments of a tenth of million US dollars. This is a constantly continuing process as far as we intend to invest in the same scale for introducing the modern technologies, in order to continue offering the best services to our customers, such as those using 5G technology.
Based on the above mentioned, we consider, that the mobile retail market is quite effectively competitive.
Let us point out as well, that we’ve been working with the regulatory commission for several months regarding introducing obligatory MVNO access and related possible risks. In this process, our partner is Analysys Mason. The research has been completed and we’ve sent it to the regulatory commission today. We’ll wait for the GNCC to study the issue after which we’ll sum up our positions and make it public in the nearest future.
