Restoration of Unique Georgian Variety of Wheat to Start in Lechkhumi
Zanduri is a Georgian endemic variety of wheat, which is used for selection material in several countries and is kept in collections, as a valuable selection material of world importance.
This variety of wheat can be found in Racha-Lechkhumi. Currently, it is on the verge of extinction. Manoni Akhvlediani started the restoration of this endemic variety of wheat and popularization of Zanduri.
Supported by TBC, Manoni Akhvlediani arranged ethnographic space in the village Gvirishi, which includes the ancient cellary of family hotel "Zanduris Sakhli".
"This is a unique, Georgian endemic variety of wheat. Our goal is to certify the seed, which then would be purchased only from here. Georgia is an ancient center of wheat culture and we have the potential for our country to restore this name.", stated Manoni Akhvlediani.
Now, Manoni is preparing to sow the third wheat crop, distributing obtained seeds to locals as a gift. This promotes spreading of Zanduri in Lechkhumi. For the industrial use of Zanduri, two things are needed, which are increasing the number of crops and using the special technique for this variety of wheat. These are the goals of Manoni Akhvlediani's business plan.
