“Regulating the sale of beverages in plastic bottles must balance environmental, health, and economic priorities”

At the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, another working meeting was held with representatives of the business sector to discuss regulations concerning the sale of beverages bottled in plastic. The information was released by the Ministry.

The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nino Tandilashvili, as well as Deputy Ministers Solomon Pavliashvili, Zurab Ezugbaya, Kakha Kakabadze, Lasha Dolidze, and Lasha Avaliani.

“The Ministry is actively working and discussing with business sector representatives the policies aimed at reducing plastic waste pollution and improving waste management. It is important that we develop an action plan in coordinated cooperation with the sector. The regulations must balance environmental, health protection, and economic aspects,” said Solomon Pavliashvili.

At the meeting, the parties discussed a new initiative that would restrict the purchase of beverages in plastic bottles by budgetary organizations, state institutions, and the hospitality sector. The initiative aims to reduce plastic consumption and encourage the use of alternatives.

The parties agreed to continue the dialogue with business representatives in a working format to develop an effective mechanism.
