Rakuten Viber Celebrates Georgian Language Day with Survey Results

Rakuten Viber, the world's leading private and secure messaging and voice communication platform, commemorated Georgian Language Day, celebrated annually on April 14 in Georgia, by conducting a survey on the Viber Georgia channel.

The purpose of the survey was to understand public awareness of the holiday and how people communicate in messengers. More than 6,000 Georgian users participated in the survey.

The results of the survey were encouraging, with 87% of respondents correctly identifying the holiday celebrated on April 14 in Georgia. Moreover, 66% of respondents could accurately identify the year when the holiday first began in 1990.

As part of the survey, Viber Georgia users also shared their insights on how they use the Georgian language in messaging:

  • 84% of respondents use the Georgian keyboard in their chats
  • 10% of respondents write in Georgian but use the Latin alphabet
  • 3% of respondents send stickers in Georgian
  • 3% of respondents use the Georgian language in a different way

According to Viber's internal analytics, the most popular stickers searched by users in Georgia from the beginning of 2023 to the present are "Hello," "LOL," "laugh," "to smile," and "a kiss." Meanwhile, the most requested GIFs are "love," "a hug," "happy New Year," and "wolf."

As a global messenger, Viber places great importance on local content that will be relevant to its Georgian users. In celebration of Georgian Language Day, Viber prepared a thematic survey on the holiday in Messenger, allowing users to test their knowledge and have fun.
