Nurturing Agricultural Innovation: Spotlight on Lasha Lomsadze, 'Agrosphere's' Promising Scholar
As the importer of innovative agricultural products and farming equipment, "Agrosphere" aims to stimulate the popularity of agriculture, captivate more young minds to the field, and train proficient personnel. In line with this objective, the firm signed a memorandum of cooperation last year with the "Agrarian University".
As per this agreement, "Agrosphere" is committed to annually granting scholarships to three agriculture-focused students. Additionally, they offer internships for these students and seven others at the company's service centers, partner farms, demonstration vineyards, and greenhouses.
In our quest to understand the impact of the "Agrosphere" program, we reached out to this year's scholarship recipients. We discussed their professional ambitions, future plans, and their perceptions of the agricultural challenges in Georgia. In this feature, we spotlight Lasha Lomsadze, a third-year mechanical engineering student at the "Agrarian University".
Lasha is drawn to the technical domain, not just within agriculture, but across different industries. He chose mechanical engineering recognizing the dearth of local talent in this sphere, typically dominated by foreign professionals. He's eager to contribute to the field's sustenance and growth, driven by his personal interest and a sense of responsibility.
Mechanical engineering education is available at only two institutions in Georgia - the "Agrarian University" and the "Technical University", contributing to the scarcity of knowledge about the field. However, Lasha notes an encouraging rise in student enrolment year-on-year. Yet, securing employment remains a challenge due to the nascent state of the field in Georgia, resulting in many graduates seeking opportunities abroad.
When queried about the significance of the "Agrosphere" scholarship and internship programs, Lasha expressed his surprise and appreciation for such a private sector initiative. According to him, the recognition not only boosts motivation but also broadens one's perspective, inspiring belief in achieving tangible results even as a student.
With his sights set on gaining practical knowledge through the internship program, Lasha is eager to join the "Agrosphere" team and learn from their proficient workforce. His professional journey is bound to be a challenging one. After completing his bachelor's degree, Lasha plans to pursue a master's degree in the same field, despite the lack of such a program in Georgia, necessitating overseas education. Despite future uncertainties, Lasha is firm in his decision to continue his professional path in Georgia, reflecting his commitment to contributing to his nation's agricultural progress.
