New Agricultural Machines and Rural Sector Challenges
How agriculture machines are employed in rural regions of Georgia, and what challenges are met in the sector– Akaki Gogsadze, founder of the Agro Motors company talks about these issues for the Business Partner TV program.
The government co-funding program enables farmers to buy modern and high-quality machines, and this process should be continued. Today, the Georgian agriculture sector lacks necessary equipment, he said.
Compared to the 1990s, the number of agriculture machines and amount of equipment has almost halved, to about 7-8 thousand units. Moreover, farmers prefer to employ predominantly used machines and equipment. As a result, more fuel is used and the productivity is lower, Gogsadze noted.
Agro Motors is an official representative of John Deere, the world famous American brand of agriculture machines and equipment, in Georgia and it imports, sells and serves John Deere products in Georgia. The demand for products doubles year on year, and it will be wonderful if the state co-funding program for agriculture machines is continued into the future, Gogsadze said.
The demand for state co-funding project was so high that in the spring, the company could not satisfy all consumers, and queues stood in the yards, he said.
“A lot of consumers could not enjoy this opportunity, and they expect the authorities to maintain this project, but nothing is clear this year. This project allows us businessmen and farmers to buy modern, high-quality machines and equipment”, Gogsadze noted.
