Internet Activity in Georgia Rises by 200%

Coronavirus as the challenge and the new opportunity for the telecommunication business – HUAWEI Georgia corporate director Tamta Sharashenidze discussed the current situation in the telecommunication industry and future prospects for Business Partner.

“The pandemic is a huge challenge for all sectors, including the telecommunications industry. HUAWEI is a global telecommunication company. The growing internet activity in the telecommunications industry is one of the biggest challenges today, be it mobile internet or landline internet. Georgia’s internet use has increased by 200%. HUAWEI cooperates with domestic operators and they have managed to cope with this huge workload and ensured a supply of valuable and perfect services to the internet users.

The current pandemic is generating both challenges and new opportunities for the telecommunication business. As for the opportunities, the digitalization processes have been accelerated. We know that online sales have grown; digital education and telemedicine have also become very important.

Artificial intelligence and big data, as analytical platforms, are also gaining momentum. They are able to process extremely big data in the shortest period. It is noteworthy that Georgia has made huge progress in terms of technological development, because the country has been picking up all cutting-edge telecommunication technologies. The country has been introducing Artificial Intelligence components in stages. HUAWEI permanently introduces the newest technologies to the country, together with partners”, Tamta Sharashenidze noted.

The Chinese company does not plan to deepen entrepreneurial relations with Georgia, because the country lacks due infrastructure and qualified workforce, Tamta Sharashenidze said.

“We should make investments in education sector to promote production and business in the country. As for 5G Technology, it brings new prospects, including in terms of Artificial Intelligence. As a result of partnership with the Government and our operators, the country will allocate due frequencies in 2020 as soon as the Authorities approve due regulations”, Tamta Sharashenidze noted.

We remind you that HUAWEI launched operation on Georgian market in 2001.
