Improving Quality Infrastructure and Empowering Women in Georgia’s Construction Sector

A stakeholder meeting focused on enhancing quality infrastructure and advancing women’s participation in Georgia’s construction industry was held in Tbilisi, organized by the Georgian Construction Materials Cluster (GCMC) in partnership with EU-German government-funded projects QUIS – Quality Infrastructure for Better Goods and Services and VET in Georgia’s Growth Sectors.

The event brought together representatives from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the construction sector and highlighted the essential role of the private sector in driving industry development.

During the meeting, speakers presented findings from a joint research project conducted by GCMC and PMCG, which included a sectoral needs analysis and proposed support mechanisms. Discussions focused on improving the quality of construction materials, strengthening laboratory services, and aligning infrastructure with international standards.

A dedicated panel titled “Women in Construction” addressed the challenges and opportunities for women in a traditionally male-dominated field. Panelists emphasized the importance of vocational education and upskilling as critical tools for empowering women and increasing their representation in the sector.

“Education and private sector investment are key to creating the foundation women need to enter and succeed in the construction industry,” panelists noted, also highlighting the proven leadership and business success women bring to the sector.
