“Green Camp – Climate Ambassadors” to Welcome Its Sixth Cohort
The Environmental Information and Education Centre will welcome the sixth cohort of its “Green Camp – Climate Ambassadors” programme. Fifty young people selected through a competitive process will spend a week exploring environmental issues, working with specialists and participating in a variety of practical and educational activities.
The camp was opened by Nino Tandilashvili, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia; Tamta Devdariani, Director of the Environmental Information and Education Centre; Douglas Webb, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Georgia; and Tamar Khurtsilava, National Programme Officer at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
“Green Camp – Climate Ambassadors offers young people an opportunity to learn more about environmental issues. Promoting environmental education in schools is one of our ministry’s key priorities,” said Nino Tandilashvili.
Participants from across Georgia were selected through a two-stage competition. In the first stage, applicants submitted applications and produced videos discussing the importance of tackling climate change and presenting their project ideas. Candidates who advanced to the second stage were interviewed.
Tamta Devdariani spoke about the importance of the “Green Camp – Climate Ambassadors” programme, highlighting the Centre’s educational and practical initiatives for young people. She noted that such programmes enable participants to gain new experience, develop practical skills and actively contribute to raising environmental awareness.
Alongside deepening participants’ understanding of environmental issues, the programme includes activities focused on practical learning and teamwork. Participants will explore topics such as climate change, biodiversity, disaster risk reduction, sustainable forest resource management, waste management, renewable and alternative energy, ecosystem services and other key environmental issues.
One of the camp’s main goals is to strengthen young people’s environmental knowledge and develop their practical skills. The experience will equip participants to launch youth-led and environmental initiatives in their communities after the camp and share what they have learned with their peers.
“Green Camp – Climate Ambassadors” is implemented by the Environmental Information and Education Centre under UNDP’s project “Reducing the Risk of Climate-Driven Disasters in Georgia”, with support from the Green Climate Fund and the governments of Georgia and Switzerland.
