Georgian Manganese Halts Production in Chiatura

Georgian Manganese has announced a complete halt of its production operations in Chiatura. The company made the announcement via social media, attributing the shutdown to ongoing "radical protests" by residents of Shukruti village.

“Due to the financial crisis caused by the protests of Shukruti residents, we have had to fully stop production in Chiatura. In these circumstances, we are offering our employees 60% of their salary along with the continuation of their family insurance package,” the company stated.

The management team, along with enterprise heads, reviewed the impact of the crisis that has persisted for eight months. According to their assessment, since March, 70% of production had already been halted due to the protests. This was further exacerbated by a global decline in ore prices and depleted financial resources.

Despite the challenges and the shutdown of most operations, Georgian Manganese paid employees their full salaries. However, the severe financial crisis has now forced the company to adopt a special regime.

Over the next four months, the company plans to develop and legally coordinate a crisis management plan aimed at stabilizing its financial situation, ensuring ore mining becomes profitable again, and addressing ongoing disruptions.

The company emphasized that executing this plan is crucial to restoring stability and eliminating frequent, unlawful work stoppages.
