Former Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili Appointed CEO of Italy’s Italiana Petroli
Former Georgian Economy Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili has been appointed CEO of Italiana Petroli, one of Italy’s largest oil companies, according to a statement released by the company.
In May 2026, SOCAR, Azerbaijan’s state-owned oil company, acquired Italiana Petroli for €2.9 billion. The company had been working on the deal since September 2025 and received final regulatory approval in May 2026, after which SOCAR completed the acquisition of a 99.82% stake in the business. Following the completion of the transaction, SOCAR appointed Levan Davitashvili as CEO of Italiana Petroli.
Davitashvili served as Georgia’s Minister of Economy from February 2022 to June 2025, while also holding the position of Deputy Prime Minister.
Italiana Petroli operates 4,500 fuel stations across Europe and also owns oil refining facilities with a combined annual processing capacity of 10 million tonnes. The company generates more than €4.3 billion in annual revenue.
