EU Funds Renewable Energy Supply chain in Telavi Municipality

Telavi Municipality in Georgia received energy-efficient equipment for collecting and processing waste wood from vineyards, as part of the EU project ‘Biomass Energy and Energy Efficient Technologies as Sustainable Energy Solutions for Georgian signatories of the Covenant of Mayors’.

The new equipment is provided by the Italian company ‘CAEB International’ and includes a round baler for waste wood, and a bale chipper. The agricultural waste processed by this equipment will be used in a renewable energy supply chain to provide heating in two selected buildings in the municipality.

The project is funded by the EU programme ‘Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects’ (CoM-DeP) under the EU4Energy initiative, and is implemented by the Energy Efficiency Centre in Georgia. The EU’s total contribution for the project is nearly €600,000 with co-financing from Telavi Municipality of almost €150,000.
