Etagere Factory- Georgian Modern Furniture from the Past

Etagere Factory - this is the name of the brand created by journalist Vika Bukia, which combines plain, sophisticated and "warming" products. This is furniture that is both nostalgic and something new, unique and with a very big identity.

Etagere Factory combines two directions - new and "nearly new" furniture. The first direction, in turn, includes completely new furniture made of solid wood, and the second - completely transformed versions of existing, old furniture.

Homeis.ge had a conversation with Vika Bukia about the newly created brand in more detail:

Often an in-depth interest in something arises when you need something. My story started like this, banally: I was renovating the house and when I found myself in the empty walls, I started thinking about what kind of furniture should be there. However, I still knew exactly what I was looking for - I was looking for nostalgic, medieval retro furniture with modern touches. Usually I went to furniture stores, however, I did not find much I wanted. What I liked was that I only saw it in online stores - however, they were very far from Georgia and my budget did not allow me to buy them.

I decided to start looking for carpenters. To put it bluntly, the first three attempts to work with them were unsuccessful. I realized that it is very difficult for someone else to do exactly what you need. Also, when I told the carpenters what I wanted, everyone answered that this furniture was very easy to make, which didn't turn out true. Actually, this is the challenge of this furniture - it seems primitive, but at the same time it should be very light and sophisticated, it should not have anything extra.

It turned out that after so many attempts, I got all sorts of experiences. In the process, I could not have imagined that similar types of furniture could be turned into a business in the future. However, still, in the end, the attempt to find the proper carpenters was successful and I found exactly the people I needed. Today I give them complete freedom and they do exactly what I ordered.

Homeis: However, it did not end only with the production of new furniture, did it?

Yes, in parallel with all this, my attention was drawn to the furniture of the Soviet period. However, I did not like the color, texture, varnish, etc. I also did not like the fact that it looks very banal from one polish closet to another and is very faded already. I decided to start looking for restorers to transform similar furniture to my taste. However, it so happened that the restorers did not offer anything like that in this matter. They promised to upgrade the furniture, however, I wanted something more. As a result, I began to study this period. I found that the furniture of this period (but not in the Soviet Union) was characterized by quite interesting ornaments and details; Eventually, after a lot of experimentation, I slowly managed to create what I had on my mind.

Homeis: And yet, what exactly does Etagere Factory unite?

Today, Etagere Factory combines two directions - new furniture and "nearly new" furniture. New furniture means not restored but renovated furniture. Users have no idea what our models are made of. We give a whole new life to old, banal furniture. We will completely change the look and transform it into modern furniture.
