Cosmetics from Georgian Donkey Milk - Future Plans of Virlandia

Virlandia - farm of donkeys is located near Tbilisi, in the municipality of Gardabani, village "Gamarjveba". Donkey milk is produced on the farm, which is pretty rare on the market. It is recognized as a product with healing properties in folk and modern medicine.

Five years ago, co-founder of the farm, Tornike Tepnadze decided to create the farm after studying the unique properties of the product. As he defines, the main distinguishing feature of donkey milk is that it is closest in quality to breast milk.

"Along with getting acquainted with foreign practice and medical benefits of donkey's milk, we have studied several cases in folk medicine. We established contacts with foreign farms, were introduced with the studies of immunologists, pediatricians, and medical experts. Donkey's milk is an unfamiliar product in Georgia. The main distinguishing feature of the product is that donkey milk was found to be closest to breast milk. Apart from this, it contains anti-allergic, anti-microbial properties, with D vitamin. Donkey's milk for children is a particularly beneficial product since it is more common for them to have respiratory diseases and tract infections.", Tepnadze noted.

The price of donkey's milk per liter is 60 GEL. Torkine Tepnadze explained, that the main determinant of this value is that milk from a donkey is difficult to obtain and comes in small quantities.

One of the main parts of Virlandia's future plan is the production of cosmetics using donkey's milk. At this stage, homemade soaps are made from donkey milk on the farm, which costs 14 GEL.

Virlandia's farm employes 6 people. The idea was partly invested under the program "Enterprise Georgia".
