Chinese Ambassador: Market Is Open to Georgian Wine and Honey Exports
The Chinese market is fully open to Georgian producers, particularly in the wine sector, according to Zhou Qian, the Chinese Ambassador to Georgia. Speaking on the Business Partner program, the ambassador emphasized the opportunities for deepening trade ties between the two countries.
“China is not only the world’s second-largest economy but also the leading contributor to global economic growth, accounting for roughly 30% of global expansion,” Zhou said. “In 2023, China’s GDP reached $18.7 trillion, and in the first quarter of this year, it grew by 5.4%, one of the highest rates among major economies.”
As a strategic partner, China offers Georgian producers significant export potential, particularly for wine. While China imports wine from a range of countries, Zhou noted that Georgian wine is still a newcomer in the Chinese market.
“Georgia is the homeland of wine, and the quality is very high,” Zhou said. “It is important for Georgian wine to strengthen its image in China as a premium product. The potential is great.”
The ambassador also highlighted honey as another promising sector, urging Georgian producers to position their products strategically to appeal to Chinese consumers.
“Honey exports also have strong potential. Even if one city embraces Georgian honey, exports could double,” Zhou said. “It is essential to develop product positioning that resonates with the Chinese market—this applies to both honey and wine.”
China and Georgia have expanded economic cooperation in recent years, and agricultural exports are seen as a key area for future growth.
