Butrana Plans to Produce Italian Mozzarella and Gouda Cheese

Georgian wine and cheese producing company Butrana plans to expand the assortment of cheese and starts to produce Italian Mozzarella and Gouda cheese from the Netherlands.

"We plan to add several well-known varieties of cheese, which will be sold in hypermarkets, Goodwill and Carrefour apart from hotels and specialized stores. We hope, that we will not only compete with imported products but also gradually replace them. The raw material with which we produce cheese is from Butrana farm. For example, for preparing the aged cheese, we use Saperavi from our vineyards.", noted Jemal Khatiashvili.

As the company declares, they can not meet the demand of small-scale customers, so Butrana decided to expand the assortment and build a new farm in September.

"The demand from the customer is pretty high. Our motivation is to offer them new, natural and diverse varieties of cheese. Mozzarella and Gouda will be targeted at the middle and high price segment. For example, we estimate the price of Mozzarella to be 22-23 GEL. At the initial stage, we want to fully cover the Georgian market. Then, when Georgian dairy products will be allowed to be imported to the EU, we plan to export our products.", stated Jemal Khatiashvili.

Butrana is located in the village of Tibaani, in the region of Sighnaghi. The company produces pitcher wine and more than 20 varieties of cheese.
