Austrian University of Mining and Technology Leoben Signs MoU with Georgian Technical University

The Rector of the Austrian University of Mining and Technology Leoben, Professor Peter Moser, has paid a working visit to Georgia, where a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Georgian Technical University (GTU) to strengthen academic and scientific collaboration.

This partnership builds upon a 2019 agreement between Austrian mining company Aremji and the University of Leoben, which laid the groundwork for a trilateral collaboration between the private sector, GTU, and the Austrian university.

During the working meeting held at GTU, both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to close cooperation aimed at sharing best practices and expertise in education, science, and research. Future collaboration will include joint research projects, seminars, conferences, and development-oriented initiatives.

“It is important for our company to manage production processes based on modern standards, technologies, science, and research,” said Giorgi Khetsuriani, Head of Aremji Educational Programs. “We believe that the internationalization of science is essential for the future of our country’s mining and geological sectors. This partnership will enable current employees to retrain and enhance their qualifications in Austria at one of the world’s top mining universities.”

Professor Moser emphasized the significance of the agreement for both institutions:
“For me and my university, this is a very important day. We are signing a Memorandum of Understanding for future collaboration in education and research. Both universities value the sustainable development of mineral resources, which we will pursue through joint educational programs, research, and shared initiatives. I look forward to the outcomes of this partnership.”
