Amazon, eBay, Alibaba, and Rakuten Protect Interests of Georgian GIs
The interests of Georgian geographical indication products will be protected in the international internet space.
Sakpatenti will sign a memorandum of understanding with Amazon, eBay, Alibaba, and Rakuten.
According to Sakpatenti, this serves to protect Georgian traditional products, including agricultural products, wine, and others, to prevent cases of violation of rights. In particular, Counterfeit products will be detected and removed from sale. This will facilitate the delivery of Georgian quality products.
The first agreement is expected to be formed in June. The duration depends on the negotiation, it may be indefinite.
Sakpatenti will sign this agreement with Amazon, eBay, Alibaba, and Rakuten within the framework of the EU-funded project "Establishing Efficient Protection and Control System of Geographical Indications (GIs) in Georgia.
The project will be completed on August 31st, 2021.
"The plan for the upcoming months envisages intensive work on Internet platforms, as one of the most important challenges is the fact of counterfeiting Georgian geographical indication products in the Internet space," declares Sakpatenti.
As for the project, some activities are planned to develop in order to popularize the system of GI and raise awareness, which includes the creation of videos, tutorials, and animations.
