37.3% of Hotels and Guesthouses Closed Down in Georgia Annually

The pandemic has significantly affected the tourism sector in Georgia. The number of guests visiting hotels in the pandemic 2020 decreased by 66.5%.

According to Geostat, total hotels received 1.344 million visitors, of which 30.6% were foreigners. 16% of the guests were Russian citizens, compared to the 2019 figure of 87.6%; Most of the guests coming from EU countries are German (foreign
3.1% of the visitors were citizens, with the largest share of visitors coming from other countries being citizens of Ukraine (10.3 percent of foreign visitors) and Israel (9.7 percent of foreign guests).

For recreation and leisure in hotels and hotel-type establishments
Most of the accommodated foreign guests were citizens of the Russian Federation and Israel (22.3% and 12.3%, respectively).

The number of hotel and hotel-type establishments in the country has decreased by 37.3% annually in 2020 and there were a total of 1,054 hotels and hotel-type establishments operating in the country.
