Renat Bekturov: Georgia Plays a Crucial Role in Strengthening Financial Ties Between Central Asia and Europe
According to Renat Bekturov, Governor of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), Georgia holds significant potential in deepening economic and financial ties between Central Asia and Europe. He made these remarks during the Tbilisi Finance Summit 2026.
Renat Bekturov noted that the summit serves as a vital international platform for dialogue among financial sector representatives, policymakers, and businesses, particularly regarding the development of financial technologies, artificial intelligence, and financial products. He added that such international events help showcase Georgia's capabilities, attract international partners, and deepen the dialogue surrounding the country's financial sector development.
"As Georgia is situated between the East and the West, it represents a crucial connecting point for businesses. It is important for international participants to visit Georgia themselves, explore the country's capabilities, and meet with decision-makers," stated Renat Bekturov.
According to the AIFC Governor, one of the most important directions for cooperation with Georgia is the development of the Middle Corridor, which must be accompanied by the strengthening of financial ties. In his assessment, both fintech companies and the traditional banking sector will play a significant role in this process.
Renat Bekturov also highlighted the development of capital markets, which facilitates the mobilization of local and international financial resources for economic growth.
He noted that the memorandum of understanding signed between the Astana International Financial Centre and the National Bank of Georgia serves as a strong foundation for deepening cooperation. The parties are jointly working on a mutual access and recognition project for licensed entities, which will foster stronger financial connectivity between Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
AIFC (Astana International Financial Centre) is an international financial platform based in Astana, Kazakhstan, aimed at attracting investments to the country and the region, developing the capital market, and strengthening the financial services sector. The center brings together financial institutions, investment companies, and other market participants, promoting deeper integration with international financial markets.
