Solomon Pavliashvili: Georgia’s 8,000-Year-Old Winemaking Industry Remains a Cornerstone of Our Economy

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Solomon Pavliashvili, met with Micky Choi, President of Wine 21, during his working visit to the Republic of Korea.

The Deputy Minister is attending the Seoul Wine and Spirits Expo 2025 in the capital, Seoul, and is also holding meetings with representatives of the winemaking industry and commercial sector to discuss enhancing Georgian wine exports and launching new joint trade projects on the Korean market.

The meeting with Wine 21 was also attended by Zurab Vacharadze, Deputy Chairman of the National Wine Agency of Georgia.

During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for promoting Georgian wine on the Korean market, as well as the organizational details of a professional Georgian wine masterclass and tasting event planned for September 2025 in Seoul.

“With 8,000 years of continuous development, winemaking remains one of the leading sectors of our country’s economy. Together with our partner marketing company, we reviewed current promotional efforts and outlined future plans. This meeting gave us solid expectations that Georgian wine will continue to secure its position in the Korean market—one known for its discerning wine consumers who appreciate both the quality and the history behind Georgian wine,” said Solomon Pavliashvili.

The Republic of Korea is one of Georgia’s strategic markets for wine. To enhance awareness and promote Georgian wine, the National Wine Agency has been partnering with Wine 21 since 2022.

Founded in 1998, Wine 21 is the largest wine-focused online platform in South Korea (www.wine21.com), created by wine professionals to share knowledge with everyday consumers. The portal allows Korean users to access comprehensive information on the local wine market, distributors and importers, wine types and prices, retail locations, promotional events, tastings, masterclasses, and seminars. It also offers insights into wines from around the world, their histories, and related cultural heritage.

The site boasts a loyal monthly user base of over 300,000 and more than one million pageviews. Its newsletter has over 60,000 subscribers. The company is also active in PR and marketing, organizes exhibitions, and facilitates B2B networking events.

As part of upcoming activities, a Georgian wine educational seminar and professional masterclass will be held in September for local industry and media representatives at a dedicated wine bar in Korea.
