Georgian Designations of Origin See a Rise in Their Amount
"Zegaani" and "the Association for Protection of Vine and Wine Usakhelouri" applied to Sakpatenti with a request to register two new designations of origin.
The National Wine Agency participated in other technical issues related to the preparation and registration of the wine production specification within the framework of the "Development of the System of Georgia's Designation of Origin and the Promotion Program for the Protection of Georgian Wine Designations".
"Zegaani" is a red dry Kvevri organic wine. The microzone in the Gurjaani municipality includes directly the village of Zegaani and its suburbs. The latter can only be made from Saperavi grapes harvested in the Zegaani microzone.
"Okureshi Usakhelouri" is a red wine that, according to its sugar content, can be of three different categories: dry, semi-dry, or semi-sweet. The microzone of "Okureshi Ushakhelouri" is located in Racha-Lechkhumi region, in the administrative municipality of Tsageri. Okureshi wine can be made only from the grapes of the variety grown in the microzone.
