200,000 Tons of Grapes Processed in Kakheti Region

As of September 28, the number of processed grapes in the Kakheti region reached 200,000 tons, which is 20,000 tons more than in the same period last year.

Among them are 142 thousand tons of Rkatsiteli, 48 thousand tons of Saperavi, 3.4 thousand tons of Kakhetian green and other different grapes.

As part of "Vintage 2020", up to 21 thousand viticulturists have handed over grapes to wineries. The value of sold grapes reaches 204 million GEL. Since the beginning of the harvest, 165 wineries have been involved in the grape processing process.

The daily processing rate is within 8 thousand tons. Active vintage will be moved to Sagarejo at this stage, while the intensity of vintage in other municipalities will be gradually reduced.

This year, in support of the viticulture and winemaking sector affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Georgia will subsidize Rkatsiteli and Kakhetian green grapes. The subsidy will be given to a wine company that will purchase and process at least 1000 tons of Rkatsiteli or Kakhetian green grapes grown in Kakheti region. At the same time, he or she will pay at least 0.80 GEL for 1 kg of purchased grapes. When purchasing 1 kg of grapes, subsidies are issued to wine companies: 1 kg for Rkatsiteli and 1 kg for Kakhetian greens - 0.30 GEL.
