New Sanctuary to Come Up in Georgia

In the territory of Sachkhere municipality, an area of ​​14,797 hectares will be granted the status of a sanctuary and a new protected area will be created - the Kvereti sanctuary.

Kvereti sanctuary will be established in the territory within the administrative boundaries of Sachkhere Municipality, on the southern section of the Racha Range, which includes the tributaries of the rivers - Zhurchula and Chikhura, forests, and subalpine meadows.

According to the information written in the draft law, creating new territories will promote and preserve the biodiversity in the region, and develop the potential of ecotourism. 

It will have a legal effect from January 2023.
