During the speeches, Austrian Ambassador to Georgia Mr Thomas Mühlmann, GRETA team leader Mr Riccardo Montanari and first deputy head of Georgian National Tourism Administration Ms Tamar Koriauli talked about the contribution of international donors to develop sustainable mountain tourism in Georgia and the importance of the Highlander Georgia project aimed to promote Svaneti destination locally as well as internationally.

The aim of the HIGHLANDER GEORGIA project is to promote hiking as a way of life and eco-friendly and sustainable development activities in the region. On the other hand, HIGHLANDER Georgia will contribute to positioning Georgia as a unique tourist country on the international market and promoting the growth of the number of tourists, which directly affects the development of the country's economy, in the post COVID – 19 era.
15 countries, 25 different locations and thousands of participants - Georgia is a new home of HIGHLANDER Adventure – The leading long-distance hiking event series in the world. And for this reason, for the first time on August 25-27, Georgia will host local and international guests in Mestia, Svaneti.
"HIGHLANDER" is not a competition! All participants who overcome the predefined route will gain HIGHLANDER status.
