HIGHLANDER Hosts First Adventure Hike in Georgia
Georgia joined the adventure project HIGHLANDER, along with the United States, Greece, the UK, and other countries. HIGHLANDER will unite adventure tourism enthusiasts in our country and share the philosophy that goes like this: "Take only photos, leave only footprints".
15 countries, 30 different locations, and thousands of participants - HIGHLANDER is a global series of long-distance hiking events, in which, for the first time, Georgia will be involved and on August 25-27, it will host local and international guests in Svaneti, Mestia.
The introductory meeting was held on May 19 in Mestia, which means that an unforgettable experience in Svaneti awaits mountaineers or just nature enthusiasts. The Georgian flag has already been added to the HIGHLANDER website, therefore, by clicking on it, you will be able to easily sign up.
''The commune, which is united by HIGHLANDER, is made up of experienced hikers as well as mountaineering enthusiasts, or just nature lovers.
In general, "highlander" means a person who makes hiking enjoyable and easy for him or herself and others, does not pollute the environment, consumes biodegradable materials as much as possible, cares for fellow travelers, and does not hesitate to share their resources,'' said the representative of HIGHLANDER.
Within the framework of the project, the status of HIGHLANDER means that the participant of the event - HIGHLANDER Svaneti, Georgia - crossed the finish line from one of the two routes (one of which he or she was signed up for).
HIGHLANDER is not a competition. Each participant who crosses the finish line will receive Highlander status.
HIGHLANDER is not just about physical activity and long-distance hiking, one of the main values of the project is to get to know the Svaneti mountains, unique nature, local culture, and people.
