Winners of the “Green Award 2025” Competition Announced
The Environmental Information and Education Centre of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has announced the winners of the 2025 “Green Award” competition.
In the category “Green Award – Environmental Education in Preschool”, the winner was Gulnara Buadze, a teacher from Kutiri village kindergarten in Khoni municipality. In the “Green Award – Environmental and Agricultural Education in Schools” category, the award went to Shorena Karalashvili, a teacher at Akhalsopeli Public School No. 2 in Kvareli municipality.
Minister Davit Songulashvili congratulated the winners and highlighted the role of educators in fostering environmental awareness among the younger generation.
“This day and this award are of great importance. Civic responsibility begins to form from an early age, which is why the role of every teacher—from kindergarten through school—is crucial. I would like to thank all the educators contributing to the development of values in young people and the advancement of civil society. I hope even more teachers will engage in this process, as they are shaping the healthy future of our country,” Songulashvili stated.
The event was attended by Minister of Education, Science, and Youth Aleksandre Tsuladze, who emphasized the importance of integrating environmental education into school curricula.
“Environmental education and raising awareness are among our top priorities. The ‘Green Award’ is a key initiative, and the Ministry of Education will always support it. Our goal is to raise a generation in Georgia that embodies healthy values,” Tsuladze said.
The competition involved nearly 200 preschool and school teachers from across Georgia. Winners were selected by a jury composed of representatives from the Ministry of Education, the National Center for Teacher Professional Development, Tbilisi Kindergarten Management Agency, Tbilisi Zoo’s Education Center, and NGOs such as CENN and EcoVision.
Finalists in each category received monetary prizes (1,000 GEL vouchers), gifts from partner organizations, and special awards from the Environmental Information and Education Centre.
The “Green Award” competition was launched in 2018 to encourage preschool environmental education. Since 2022, the school component was added to support the integration of environmental and agricultural education into general curricula.
