Uzbekistan Increases Cargo Transportation by Georgian Railways
Uzbekistan is increasing the volume of cargo transportation through the Caspian Sea and the Georgian railway. The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan informed Trend Agency about this.
According to the agency, the Georgian Railways, as well as the railway organizations of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan, have already presented up to 70% discount on the transportation of container block trains.
"Currently, we are engaged in a gradual increase in cargo transportation along the transit corridor passing through Azerbaijan. Uzbek carriers are increasing cargo movement directly through the Caspian Sea. We are working on creating the most favorable conditions with the states through which this corridor passes," the agency said in a statement.
In addition, according to the Ministry, Uzbekistan actively uses Azerbaijan's Alyat seaport and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway route.
In June 2022, an intergovernmental agreement on international road transport was signed between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. Based on the agreement, the practice of "permit forms" will be introduced, which is the practice of international shipping organizations. Also, a mixed commission will be created for international shipments.
According to the Ministry, the "permit system" will contribute to the formation of statistics on the movement of goods, so that appropriate analysis can be made for the development of transport corridors.
