USAID and Mastercard Launch Partnership to Advance Georgia’s Digital Economy
The USAID Economic Security Program signed a memorandum of understanding with Mastercard to accelerate digital transformation processes in the country.
Mastercard, in partnership with the USAID Economic Security Program and with the support of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, launched a digital partnership that strengthens digitization and e-commerce capacities of Georgia’s small and medium enterprises, data analytics for tourism promotion, and the ecosystem for fintech solutions.
“Partnering with Mastercard is a huge step in strengthening Georgia’s digital economy and making the country a stronger global competitor in the tourism industry,'' says USAID Mission Director Peter Wiebler. “USAID looks forward to this new partnership with Mastercard to expand our work with major private sector partners in Georgia to increase high-value tourism growth, help businesses expand, and create higher-paying jobs in communities around the country.”
‘’I am proud to say that we have been operating in the country for over 22 years, launching a number of innovative payment solutions and driving the payment industry in partnership with key stakeholders, says Yasemin Bedir, Divisional President, Mastercard Eastern Europe. We are eager to work closely with Georgian decision makers in digital transformation of the country. Indeed, Georgia’s cashless turnover is improving fast among the emerging markets, which means Georgia is well on its way to a cashless economy.’’
