Transport Connection between Europe and Asia Increased with Involvement of Georgian Railway
In April 2022, 2 new ships will start operating in the Baku-Turkmenbashi-Baku direction. They will serve container shipping.
Along with the number of ships, the number of weekly flights will also double, if of course the weather forecast for the Caspian Sea will create a precondition for this.
The shipments are carried out jointly by GR Logistics and Terminals, a subsidiary of the Georgian Railway, the Turkish company Pacific Eurasia Logistics, the Azerbaijani company ADY Conteiner, the Turkmen Transport and Logistics Center, the Uzbek company Uzbekemiril-Expedition and the Kyrgyz railway operator.
It is noteworthy that the first ship on this route has been operating since April 2019 and at this time has transported 17,500 containers. The strengthening of this union in the Caspian Sea serves to meet the growing demand for container shipping between the countries.
In 2021, compared to 2020, the volume of freight traffic on the route increased by 101%, in which each of the above operators and members play an important role. Numerous important meetings were held for the development of the route and finally the results that are in sight today were achieved. The best time for transportation was recorded in May 2021, when the transportation time from Turkey to Kyrgyzstan was 18 days, but the Georgian Railway continues to work actively to improve the result and reduce the shipping time to 12 days.
