PM: We Won't Impose Another Lockdown for the Sake of Country's Economy

We will no longer impose a lockdown. There is no need for this and it will hit hard country's economy,- said the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia after the meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council on Coronavirus.

As Gakharia noted, the government's strategy is changing and it is to adapt to the virus and manage it.

"Everyone should understand that today we are in a completely different situation. Back then these strict restrictions and lockdown were an absolutely right decision because we were thereby protecting the health and lives of our citizens because of the high degree of uncertainty and the lack of elementary privacy.

Today, when the whole world agrees that the most effective way to fight the virus is a person who reduces the probability of infection by more than 90%, of course, we will not announce a similar lockdown. There is no need for this and the country's economy simply cannot afford it. Also considering that there will be no vaccine tomorrow and the day after, coexisting with the virus and fighting the virus is a long-term process. Consequently, due to this longevity, our strategy changes and it is to adapt to the virus and manage it. Consequently, our most correct decision would be to adapt. In the balance, we mean point restrictions and the correct implementation of the rules imposed on us by epidemiologists - we must be careful, we must keep our distance," Gakharia said.
