Ministry of Finance Sells ₾50 Million in Treasury Bills

On January 6, 2025, the Ministry of Finance of Georgia successfully sold ₾50 million worth of 6-month treasury bills, equivalent to $17.8 million USD. According to the Galt & Taggart Weekly Review, demand for the auction was robust, reaching 2.2 times the offered amount. The weighted average interest rate for these treasury bills rose by 0.023 percentage points compared to the previous auction, settling at 7.583%.

On the same day, the Ministry also issued 3-year benchmark bonds totaling ₾40 million ($14.2 million USD). Demand for these bonds was 1.6 times higher than the offering, and the weighted average interest rate increased by 0.190 percentage points from the last auction, reaching 8.555%.

The Ministry of Finance has announced another auction scheduled for January 14, 2025. This upcoming auction will include ₾20 million in 1-year treasury bills and ₾30 million in 11.7-year benchmark bonds.

The strong demand and incremental rate adjustments underscore continued investor interest in Georgian government securities while reflecting market trends in interest rates.
