The second phase of urban rehabilitation of Abastumani resort is underway. The Municipal Development Fund (MFD) has already announced a tender worth GEL 51 million.
The second phase calls for rehabilitating the river Otskhe bed, bridges, central highway and district roads, footpaths, bike lanes, recreational and other tourism infrastructures. Abastumani will be entirely rehabilitated by the first half of 2022, the MDF representatives noted. As for the first phase, in 2020, 18 historical houses built in XIX-XX centuries were rehabilitated, as well as Evgeni Kharadze National Astrophysics Observatory and cableway constructed in 1982. The general plan of Abastumani settlement and water supply system rehabilitation was also completed, as well as sewage system construction works.
At this stage, Baghdati-Abastumani 77-km road rehabilitation is being continued, as well as the rehabilitation of the water supply system rehabilitation. The company is also designing sewage system cleaning facilities. Both phases of Abastumani rehabilitation projects are carried out with the financial support of the World Bank.
