Manufacturing Batteries for Electric Vehicles Starts in Kutaisi
The launching of the Kutaisi electric vehicle factory has been delayed due to a pandemic, and according to the Ministry of Economy, the production of electric batteries will start instead.
"Due to the COVID crisis, lost jobs, and impoverishment around the world, demand for luxury cars and electric vehicles has declined. Our plans to move the public sector to electric vehicles, to make new purchases, and to support local production, have been postponed because our budget is loaded with completely different priorities.
However, currently, we are working on a project of producing electric batteries in Georgia, which is oriented on energy-saving and acclimation. We think that enterprises working with similar technologies can develop in this area. I hope that when the economic situation improves, the factory will start operating electric vehicles.", noted Natia Turnava.
